Appco Group Support Australia is working with Youngcare to give young people full-time care
October 4, 2011
Appco Group Australia Support together with the not-for-profit organisation Youngcare is working to get young people out of aged care facilities and into more age appropriate accommodation.

A further 700,000 are cared for at home by family and friends, often with limited support.
To address the lack of appropriate care and housing options for young people with full-time care needs, the first Youngcare Apartments opened in Sinammon Park, West of Brisbane in December 2007 and are now home to 16 young residents. The apartments offer a person-centred approach to full-time care provision, focused on empowering residents to make their own choices and live the young lives they deserve.
Youngcare Fundraising Director Kirsty Graham said: “We are very grateful to Appco Group Support for their willingness to work with a new organisation, such as ours and for their enthusiasm and commitment in assisting us to grow our monthly supporter base.”
Donors signed up through Appco Group Support are assisting Youngcare deliver greater choice to young people requiring full-time care through a range of initiatives which include:
• Continuing to build more Youngcare accommodation on the Gold Coast; followed by Sydney and Melbourne
• The Youngcare Connect hotline to provide support and advice to those who need it most
• Lobbying Government to drive policy change and systems reform
• Providing an At Home Care Grant program to top-up the care funding for those young people wishing to reside at home
• Undertaking research to more comprehensively understand the issues
This is Youngcare’s first campaign using face-to-face fundraising and the organisation is very pleased with the results achieved by Appco Group Support so far.
“It’s our hope that Youngcare and Appco Group Support can form a long-term partnership to deliver lasting change to the lives of young people with high care needs throughout Australia,” Ms Graham said.
